Jon Favreau Digs Deep into Star Wars Lore

Jon Favreau is digging deep for his latest production photos for TV series The Mandalorian. He posted images of two different objects that reach way back into the pre-Disney days of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Harcore fans of Willrow "Ice Cream Maker Guy" Hood, The Star Wars Holiday Special's cartoon version of Boba Fett, and 2008 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed have reason to celebrate.

Check out the images and more info after the jump.

Willrow Hood is a background character seen running around Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back who was given the backstory of a miner contracted by the Rebellion in the expanded universe thanks to his rise in popularity as the “Ice Cream Guy,” “Ice Cream Maker Guy,” or “Ice Cream Man” because of the prop that he holds in his hands. According to Wookiepedia, the object has been revealed to be “a computer’s memory core.”

The second prop nods to a more recent Star Wars property: the 2008 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. While the game is not canon today, The Mandalorian could be pulling inspirations from the expanded universe of Star Wars content to built its world. The gun that Favreau posted bears similarities to the Amban phase-pulse blaster in The Force Unleashed, which could additionally hint at a character named Ambu Fett. It also looks very similar to Boba Fett's weapon in 1978's "The Star Wars Holiday Special," in which the bounty hunter was introduced.
